Peter Kingdon, Chairman, Considerate Constructors
Scheme
While the finished structure is the showcase
for the industry, the construction site reveals
the state of industry for good or for bad. Those
who manage them must be sensitive to the local
environment. They must minimise any disturbance
in terms of noise, dust and dirt caused by some
construction sites to the immediate neighbourhood.
I've seen good and bad examples over the years
and good management makes an enormous difference.
The increasing number of sites badged with the
Considerate Constructors Scheme logo is evidence
of the construction industrys commitment
to improving its public image by having well run
sites, being a good neighbour and respecting its
workforce.
The Considerate Constructors Scheme Awards
give further recognition of the commitment and
professionalism of participating contractors to
improve the appearance and impact of sites they
manage and I offer my congratulations to all the
winners in all categories.
The Rt Hon Alun Michael MP, Construction Minister
I firmly believe that the Considerate Constructors
Scheme has and continues to make a significant
contribution to ensuring that high standards are
upheld and the hard work of site teams is correctly
portrayed to clients and the public.
Michael Levack, Chief Executive of Scottish
Building
I am delighted to be associated with this
event. All too often, as a member of the Health
and Safety Commission, I have to come to terms
with the bad news stories emanating from construction -
the fatalities, the accidents and near misses,
the abuses and the dodges.
It is reassuring therefore to see that many,
many, employers are considerate and care about
the industry, the employees and the environment.
This is a vibrant and exiting industry. It can
become an even safer industry if more companies
sign up for the Scheme.
I would like to extend the HSCs congratulations
to all those involved in this worthwhile venture."
Danny Carrigan, Health & Safety Commissioner
'All too often we only hear of matters which
tarnish the reputation of the construction industry.
The Considerate Constructors Awards redress the
imbalance, sending out the powerful message: construction
sites are run professionally.'
Peter Commins, Chairman, Construction
Confederation
I was delighted to be asked to present an Award
at the 2006 Considerate Constructors Scheme National
Awards, and have followed with great interest
the tremendous progress the Scheme has made since
I was first involved with it in 1997. I am particularly
pleased that it emphasises recycling and the efficient
use of materials on site, as this is an area where
there is real scope for the industry to improve
its sustainability by reducing waste and conserving
natural resources.

and Resources Action Programme)
