“Construction projects can have a huge impact on the lives of those that live nearby. Unless properly managed, environmental pollution from noise and construction waste can blight the lives of our neighbours while work goes on. Safety is always a main concern.
The Considerate Constructors Scheme improves the image of construction by ensuring that sites are managed in a way that considers the effect it has on the local environment and acts in a neighbourly manner.
The environmental emphasis of the Scheme means that sites will select and use local resources for construction and promote recycling by carrying it out themselves and using recycled materials, all of which will be beneficial to residents of the District and link with the current and future priorities of the District Council.
By joining the Scheme a constructor agrees to abide by a Code of Considerate Practice that lays down requirements to address the effect of the project on the community and provide suitable levels of health and safety. They are also required to ensure site cleanliness is good and that full and regular communication takes place with neighbours regarding activities.
Respectable standards of dress and conduct are required of site operatives and pride in the appearance of the site is promoted.
Mendip District Council believes that any actions by the construction industry to improve the standards that they work to and possible adverse effects on those living and working around construction should be supported and hopes that Mendip residents will be pleased to see that we are partnering with the Considerate Constructors Scheme to help promote these actions.”
Peter Kingdon MCIOB, Chairman, Considerate Constructors Scheme, added:
“I am delighted that Mendip District Council will be using the Considerate Constructors Scheme to help them deliver high standards of construction practice within their area. The building sites that register with us are committing to a code that requires strong links with the local community, thoughtful site practices, a high level of environmental care and good staff facilities.
I have no doubt that Mendip District Council will soon be observing the real benefits that membership of the Scheme provides, not only for themselves, but for all those living and working in the region.” |
