Michael Levack commented: “ There is no doubt that over the past 10 years the old negative images of the construction industry have been largely changed. I believe the Considerate Constructors Scheme has made a significant contribution to this, by encouraging contractors to present their sites in a more professional manner and with a real consideration of the neighbouring environment.
I believe that sites following the code of considerate practice are likely to benefit from improved heath and safety performance and general efficiency, the old maxim of ‘a tidy site is a safe site’ still holds true.
The Considerate Constructors Scheme is definitely not just another initiative, but a focus to aid the achievement of higher and consistent standards.”
Edward Hardy, Scheme General Manager said “The take up of sites registering in Scotland has been consistent, but we haven’t seen the same increase in both registration and awareness as we have else where in the British Isles. We were delighted to be asked to present to the members of Scottish Building and I am as keen as Michael to see numbers of registered sites in Scotland increase. More sites registering with the Scheme means better facilities for those working on the sites, better involvement of sites with their neighbours and improved environmental awareness”. |
