At the Building Research Establishment (BRE) at Watford, the Stewart Milne Group recently unveiled the UK’s first 5-star near zero carbon house that meets all nine elements set out in the Code for Sustainable Homes.

As part of compliance with the Code, the site was registered with and monitored by the Considerate Constructors Scheme, whose aims are to improve the image of construction by encouraging higher standards through the construction process.

The house design has been named ‘Sigma’, taken from the Greek word meaning ‘sum of all things’, and is designed to address the principles of lifetime homes, secured by design, changing demographics and work/life styles.
