UK Leads in Considerate Construction

International interest in the UK’s Considerate Constructors Scheme continues to grow, with new approaches from various organisations around the world planning to adopt similar schemes for their own territories.

The most recent approach was from a Dutch delegation, who met with David Hardy, Chairman of the Scheme and General Manager Edward Hardy at the Scheme’s headquarters in Ware, Hertfordshire. The operation of the Scheme was reviewed and initial discussions were held on how a similar scheme could be set up in the Netherlands, pending further discussions.

The Scheme has also been invited to visit Gibraltar, where sites are keen to adopt the Scheme’s principles to meet with construction industry chiefs, and has had conversations with interested parties from New York State, New South Wales (Australia) and Southern Ireland.

Commenting on the interest, David Hardy said: “There is no doubt that Britain leads the world in considerate construction and we are delighted to share our knowledge for the benefit of other countries. A key element of the Scheme’s success to date has been the constant influx of new ideas from contractors around the UK, and the interest shown by other countries clearly demonstrates the success of this method.”

The Scheme’s extraordinary growth rate shows no sign of slowing, with 6500 new sites registered during 2007, taking the Scheme’s total representation of the industry to around 40% of all eligible sites.
