Norman Reed has been appointed as the new chairman of the Considerate Constructors Scheme from 1 January 2008, taking over from Peter Kingdon, who completes his two-year term at the end of December 2007.
Norman, who has been vice-chairman of the Scheme since January 2007, is also one of the Scheme’s site Monitors and has been with the organisation since October 2003. Prior to this he held a number of senior posts within the construction industry including the managing directorship of Taylor Woodrow Northern Ltd and a divisional directorship of Taylor Woodrow Construction Ltd. Now based in Cornwall, Norman also has extensive offshore construction experience, in addition to his mainland activities.
Scheme director, Mike Mitchell, has also completed his tenure as director, but will continue as a Scheme Monitor, alongside retiring chairman Peter Kingdon. To fill the two vacant director positions the Scheme has appointed two of the Scheme’s current Monitors, John Ogle-Skan and David Watson.
John Ogle-Skan spent 14 years as a construction director within the Try Group – now Galliford Try – and joined the Scheme as a Monitor in 2005. David Watson brings particular expertise in training and site management assessment to the board, having also joined the Scheme as a Monitor in 2005.
Commenting on his new appointment as chairman, Norman Reed said: “Peter Kingdon and his predecessors have guided the Scheme very successfully into becoming an internationally-recognised force within the construction industry. With the number of site registrations continuing to grow each month, the challenge now is to maintain the high standards that are expected of us and to take the Scheme forward with new initiatives for the future.”
